A Legend of Valentines Day
Saint Valentine was a Christian Priest who performed marriages at a Clandestine wedding destination, for soldiers who were forbidden to marry.
Roman Emperor Claudius II supposedly forbade this in order to grow his army, believing that married men did not make for good soldiers. But Claudius was impressed by Valentine and he tried to convert him to Roman Paganism in order to save his life. Valentine refused he was incarcerated and later executed.
On February 14th Valentine became Saint Valentine because of sacrificing his life for christian solders. Before his execution, he is reported to have performed a miracle by healing the jailer’s blind daughter Julia. Valentine fell in love with Julia, and on the day of his execution he wrote her a note confessing his love to her, Singed “your Valentine” On February 14th Valentine became Saint Valentine.
And now, February is the month of love and romance, as we confess our love to another!
